Venue
The conference will be held at the University Club of Western Australia
on Friday August 5 and Monday August 8, and at
The School of Physics on Saturday and Sunday,
August 6-7.
Getting to IMS 2005
On Friday, the first day of IMS, the conference bus will stop outside the Emerald Hotel at
8:10pm. If you are not there, you will miss the bus.
The Emerald is located at the very western end of Milligan Street,
just before the pedestrian bridge over the freeway.
If you are staying at the Mountway Holiday Apartments, the Emerald is a 2 minute walk over
the pedestrian bridge across the freeway from the Mount Street end of the apartments.
If you are not within walking distance of the Emerald, you can probably catch one of the
frequent (and free) CAT buses which travel around Perth.
The blue CAT goes through Northbridge (Britannia Hostel, Quest on James).
The Red CAT travels from the eastern end of the city (Mercure on Irwin, Sheraton).
If you catch the Red CAT, the nearest stop to the Emerald is number 19, QV1.
From this stop, walk back down Hay St to Milligan St, turn right and walk 200m to the Emerald.
If you catch the Blue CAT, the nearest stop is number 21, Mounts Bay Village. From this stop,
keep walking along Mounts Bay Rd, under the freeway until you reach Spring St.
Turn left at Spring St. The Emerald is to the left at the top of Spring St.
The Transperth web page
contains more information about CAT buses.
A map of the CAT routes is available here.
The same arrangement will apply on Monday, except that the bus will leave the Emerald
at 8:00 (sharp!), as Stephen Wolfram's talk starts at 8:30.
On Saturday, with less traffic around, we will use two smaller buses, and will probably pick
up from the Emerald, the Britannia, and possibly other hotels. We'll announce just where and
when the buses will be stopping at the conference on Friday.
